The Slow ‘N Sear® (Slow and Sear) Charcoal basket design features
- Your kettle is both curved and round so it makes sense that the Slow n Sear® has been designed and manufactured to contour your kettle body. This creates maximum charcoal capacity resulting in extended smoking times, it holds more than twice the capacity of a standard charcoal basket!
- Due to its contoured design, the space between the basket's outer wall and the kettle wall acts as an effective air insulation barrier, keeping heat inside the grill where it belongs rather than heating the air outside the kettle. This means a far more efficient charcoal burn at low and slow temperatures 107° – 121°C (225° – 250° F) and allowing for 8-10 hours of cooking on a single basket load of fuel, which is roughly what fits in a standard-sized charcoal chimney Starter. Now that's efficient!
- Whatever your preferred fuel source – lump charcoal or charcoal briquettes, the Slow ‘N Sear creates an insulated heating environment that allows the fuel to burn much more efficiently.
- Our customers estimate that they use 75% less charcoal with the Slow ‘N Sear than they would without it. That's significant savings over the course of the summer barbecue season - or the entire year!
- As the charcoal burns down, the curved and angled basket walls of the Slow n Sear encourage the fuel to nestle together evenly at the bottom. The close proximity of these coals aid efficient lighting from one coal to the next. (this is actually a big issue when charcoal baskets are NOT contoured and coals are spaced out as they burn down)
- This “funnel effect” of the curved and angled basket walls also concentrates the heat during the sear, resulting in searing temperatures exceeding 1000° F. It's the same principle that torches use to focus the light with the reflective background.

Slow N’ Sear Original and Slow n Sear Deluxe Water reservoir:
- Acts as a heat shield to keep temperatures consistent on the indirect side of the grill as well as a container for water when moisture is needed for low and slow cooking.
- Spans the length of the basket and is V-shaped, ensuring consistent water vapour during the charcoal burn of your cook
- At 107°C (225°F), 950ml of water will last for 5+ hours.
- The V-shape design ensures consistent steam production whether one litre or 100ml of water is present.
- Removable in the Deluxe model to allow for a larger high-heat sear zone when Requires (Deluxe version only).
